Balance Adventure Camp (303)529-9608 has announced more real-world skill-building activities for their weekly summer camps in 2025.

-- This year’s summer camp, open to children aged 6-11, will feature a robust slate of skill-building activities, with the program specifically developed to foster self-reliance and emergency preparedness while instilling confidence and resilience in young campers.

Among the core educational components, Balance Adventure Camp emphasizes fire-building exercises as particularly valuable. These activities not only develop essential practical skills but also cultivate patience and safety awareness in campers. To promote environmental stewardship, counselors instruct participants in creating fire pits according to Leave No Trace principles - maintaining small, well-contained fires that minimize ecological impact on natural surroundings.

The educators highlight two additional survival skills they teach as especially beneficial for Colorado youth. One of them is navigation training, which empowers campers with increased confidence in their ability to orient themselves and find their way in wilderness settings. Complementing this is farm skills education that shows children proper animal care techniques while establishing meaningful connections to food systems and agricultural practices.

In addition to the various outdoor activities that comprise most of each day, campers are given a daily creative hour during which they are taught skills for self-expression. Depending on the schedule, the counselors will either lead art sessions with the use of natural materials or music and dancing events. Directly following the creative hour, campers will be guided through reflection and journaling to improve their storytelling abilities.

The daily summer camp is also intended to support youth in becoming more capable, well-rounded students. “Our program nurtures resilience, curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills that are proven to support academic success,” a camp educator says, “Many of our activities are aligned with STEM concepts, environmental literacy, and real-world problem solving, offering powerful learning that complements schoolwork.”

To ensure that their program is developmentally appropriate for various age groups, Balance Adventure Camp has implemented a progressive learning model. Under this framework, they split children into three different tiers based upon their ages, allowing them to gradually build both skills and confidence while working their way up towards more complex challenges.
