SmartBud AI, launched in July 2025, provides real-time product recommendations by analyzing member preferences, consumption history, and desired effects. SmartCore, rolling out this month, serves as the data integrity backbone, ensuring accurate product information flows seamlessly across all retail touchpoints—from in-store displays to mobile apps.
Co-founder Ahab Thornhill attributes the company's recent growth to clubs seeking operational differentiation through AI-enabled personalization tools. Early adopters report measurable improvements in basket size, customer satisfaction, and staff efficiency.

The Cannabis Club Systems software suite integrates member administration, inventory tracking, sales processing, and compliance reporting. SmartBud AI revolutionizes traditional shopping patterns by automatically surfacing relevant products, eliminating the need for manual comparison—much like streaming services recommend content based on user viewing habits.
SmartCore addresses a critical gap in the cannabis retail industry: inconsistent product data. The platform maintains verified, current information across digital menus, kiosk machines, e-commerce sites, and consumer apps, creating what the company refers to as a "single source of truth" for product intelligence.
"Accurate product data is the invisible infrastructure of every consumer experience," said Chief Technology Officer Andreas Nilsen. "SmartCore ensures that no matter the channel or device, clubs operate from consistent, reliable information."
Early data from European rollouts shows clubs using SmartCore and SmartBud AI experience a 12-24% increase in basket size, driven by bundled purchases and effect-aligned product recommendations. Clubs also report an average of 3.5 hours per month saved in product dispensing and data management tasks.
CCS recently rebranded its member application as PuffPal, extending access beyond club members to the broader cannabis community. The app features a "Discover" button that maps cannabis-friendly locations worldwide, differentiating it from competitor apps focused solely on member management.
"CCS wasn't built in a lab or a boardroom — it was born out of real operational frustration," Thornhill noted. "We built it for ourselves after operating a cannabis club in Madrid. We never planned to sell the software, but once we saw the potential and how much it helped, we realized we were sitting on something meaningful."
The company serves operations across Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Malta, Latin America, South Africa, and Thailand, with plans to enter the Brazilian medical cannabis market, where AI tools will help doctors and patients track strain effects and outcomes over time.
SmartBud AI and SmartCore are available to new and existing CCS clients. New clients receive a complimentary trial period before transitioning to a subscription-based access model. The technologies integrate directly into the Cannabis Club Full System platform.
