As spring approaches, many people’s minds turn to those home improvement projects they’ve been putting off all winter. But one experts is trying to get the word out about how to reduce the number of injuries that occur every year as homeowners use box cutter utility knives to help complete their projects.

“There are thousands of injuries every year due to people not following a few safety procedures,” says a spokesman from MJH Innovations, an online retailer that sells quality products at reasonable prices, like the Maxx Cutter utility knife. “And so we’re starting an effort to educate people on how to properly use a box cutter in order to reduce the number of injuries that happen this year.”

He says the number one thing people can do is to always make sure the blade on their box cutter is sharp. “If people use a dull blade, they have to exert more pressure on the knife, and that can cause them to lose control of it,” he says. “And that often leads to upper body lacerations or even eye injuries if the blade comes dislodged and flies toward the person using it.”

In addition to using a sharp blade, he recommends always cutting away from the body, and retracting the blade whenever handing it to another person or putting it away.

“The key is to buy a quality box cutter that has features like snap off blades, ergonomic handles, and retractable blades so it’s easier to adhere to these safety precautions,” he says.
