Social Media Shutdown – The BLKEM Initiative on September 15th, 2020. This initiative is to send a message to non-black social media platforms, expose the Black community to Black owned Social Media alternatives and present Social Networking opportunities for the Black Community and its allies. BLKEM is seeking to create a safe space for Black people, where most non-black social media platforms seek to quiet the voice of the Black community. Those platforms constantly demonetize Black videos at the mention racial discrimination or social injustices. But, these same platforms constantly let racist individuals have their say, without any repercussions.
-- In a long overdue announcement, BLKEM – an acronym for “Black Empowerment”, will be celebrating the launch of its new online platform by sponsoring theWhen BLKEM talks about empowerment, that includes empowerment in finance, real estate, education, business, technology, etc.. The goal of BLKEM is to offer peace of mind to the Black community from mental and emotional trauma suffered on non-black platforms and facilitate a transition to Black Owned social platforms. Social platforms are not limited to just social media. It includes dating sites, video alternatives, streaming content and other social media alternatives, as well.
David, Co-owner at BLKEM – Black Empowerment, says: “This initiative is to expose the Black community to Black owned platforms. To show that we exist in the online arena and to highlight Black alternatives. Black dollars matter and BLKEM seeks to empower the Black community to do for itself by promoting and facilitating detachment from other social platforms that silence our voices and demonetize our content. This initiative is also to highlight the companies that advertise as Black, but are not Black owned. Our purpose is to empower the community to create opportunities, support, and build for our own. If we, as Black people, want to make a change we need to BE THE CHANGE. We realized that there is a major need for ownership, because we are disproportionately targeted when we voice our opinions on social issues, which are unique to the Black community. Black people should control the narrative of the Black community. Obviously, assimilation has not accomplished that goal. We have too many non-black “Subject Matter Experts” contributing, without ever having experienced what it is to be Black in America. Speaking from observation is totally different than speaking from experience.
BLKEM thrives on the idea of standing out and making a crucial impact. It’s all part of the realization that there is a major need for ownership as Black opinions are disproportionately targeted when voicing opinions on social issues, within the Black community, which make those outside the community uncomfortable. This Social Media Shutdown – The Blkem Initiative is just one of the many ways BLKEM seeks to achieve that goal.
