The Bayonne, NJ sustainable housing development project seeks to address aging and outdated housing in the city. Rethink Urban Housing estimates that unmarried high-income professionals account for 39 percent of homeowners, fueling rising demand for high-quality housing in the city.

The Rethink Bayonne Design Competition brings together local homeowners, investors, real estate professionals, architects, and builders to develop democratized living units optimized for quality of life over profitability. Redesign opportunities focus on key issues such as outdated properties, limited parking, lack of access to nature, and energy inefficiency. All submissions will need to comply with city building codes and architectural guidelines.

The competition seeks to transform Bayonne’s housing infrastructure and showcase a vision of sustainable urban living spaces in the city. Rethink Bayonne Design includes a 3-day virtual design hackathon where residents can view the designs created for their area. The event is expected to feature several keynote speakers and will be streamed live on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube.

The event seeks to reimagine and transform the livability and consequently, the desirability of Bayonne housing. The competition looks to design the future of Bayonne housing that’s better to live in, easier to sell, and more people-centric.
