“Silken Scales,” Book One of the Chameleon Effect series, from author Alex Hayes, is now available for purchase. The young adult/new adult paranormal fantasy novel is the first part of a planned five-part series featuring shape-shifting teens with extraordinary abilities.

“Silken Scales” follows seventeen-year-old Idris Williams whose life appears perfect. He has confidence and great looks, a famous father and a beautiful girlfriend, but all is not as it seems.

His father has it all worked out for Idris to follow him into motivational-speaking stardom, when all Idris wants is to make music. Things are not looking good for his future and then Idris morphs into something green and scaly.

Cadi Rhoswen thinks she’s finally found a stable home and foster parents she can love, until a malicious boy turns her world upside down and forces her on a New Year’s Eve journey across state lines. While wondering the streets of a ski town in Upstate New York, she is drawn to a crystal that leads her to this lizard boy with a smart mouth and a massive ego.

In order to change Idris back to his human self, Cadi must reveal a secret she has been holding close to her heart for as long as she can remember. Her secret will send the two teens racing to close a wormhole ahead of a deadly army intent on invading Earth.
