Turnagain Social Club has launched this report to differentiate its services from other adult day care centers and showcase its pandemic-safe care based on respect and dignity.
As Alaska’s population ages, more people now require professional day care services. Such services are generally provided at a non-residential facility, catering to the health and socialization needs of adults in a professional environment. These services ensure that participants’ well-being can be maintained or improved while their primary caregivers – children or relatives in most cases – receive respite.
Turnagain Social Club offers a range of general day care services, including therapeutics, nursing, meals, supervision, personal care, and transport to residents of Anchorage. The center’s team of more than 30 caregivers is trained to work with disabled individuals and the elderly.
Mental contact and stimulation have been recognized as key factors for protecting older adults from cognitive decline. In this regard, Turnagain Social Club differentiates itself from local competitors by providing additional services related to socialization and engagement. The activities organized for strengthening socialization and engagement include sessions covering the culinary arts, embroidery, trivia, audiobook sessions, board games, and sports. Scheduled performances by visiting musicians are also part of the center’s calendar.
In addition to these activities, Turnagain Social Club provides a community club and related services include museum and theatre visits, community volunteering, fishing, and outdoor walking trips. All activities and services are conducted in compliance with pandemic safety guidelines, and constant environment monitoring and upkeep are implemented to protect residents.
Turnagain Social Club opened in 2016 as a premium adult day care facility. Owner and President Koreen Mateaki has 21 years of relevant experience caring for the elderly and disabled and is a trained emergency medical technician. The facility has two floors and an area of 7,200 square feet with wheelchair-accessible entrances and an elevator.
On the center’s care model and its efforts to arrest the cognitive decline in adults, Koreen says, “If we can delay the onset of Alzheimer’s by about 5 years, the healthcare cost savings are tremendous. That’s why we differentiate our services by focusing on the person and their best interests.”
