Unsurprisingly, the history of Detroit-style pizza begins in Michigan’s largest city. According to Allrecipes, the idea for the thick, twice-stretched pizza dough was hatched at the former speak-easy Buddy’s Rendezvous in 1946. The owners of the establishment made the rectangular pizza shape by borrowing steel pans from the local automotive plants, which are still used to this day.
A customer favorite of the Detroit-style pizzas on Pepz’s menu is the D Town Sweet Heat with mozzarella and double pepperoni, topped with ricotta and hot honey. Other options include the favorite Pepz House Special, Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Good old Pepperoni!
