Alton Garden Centre is celebrating their 47th Anniversary, which commemorates 47 years of successfully helping customers with all their outdoor decor and garden needs. This is a huge milestone for the Wickford, UK-based home and garden business, which has provided everything from barbeque grills to patio furniture and everything to do with lawn and garden for residential and commercial customers since 1971.

Alton Garden Centre got it’s start in the early 1970s when founder Derek Bunker saw a huge need for an outdoor garden store in the area. He saw the opportunity but there were challenges. One of the earliest challenges Alton Garden Centre faced was starting a business when outdoor garden centres and demand for it were not something that was important in the area at the time. In a sense the market had to be created and it was.

While every business of course faces challenges, some, like Alton Garden Centre are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes, wins and victories too. Once such victory came when in the early 1970s a door to door salesman named Derek Bunker had a vision to start Alton Garden Centre. Since inception Alton Garden Centre has gone on to be regarded as one of the best garden centres in Essex. With an unrivalled local reputation this is a great achievement to be known so well for both fantastic products and customer service. Lastly Alton Garden Centre is a family favourite spot for their Christmas displays each year. Ben Thomas, Head of Marketing at Alton Garden Centre was also quoted when discussing the high points of Alton Garden Centre’s history so far, “Derek’s Philosophy is that he believes to run a business successfully, the owner has to understand and see what is happening in the business. Derek is now over 70 years old and still stocks the shelves and doesn’t even have a private office. Having this hands on approach throughout his career has been the key to making the right decisions to grow the business further..” Alton Garden Centre’s Founder, Derek Bunker says “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 47 Year Anniversary. I believe the secret to getting this far in business today is always treating every customer like they are important to us, because they are.” Alton Garden Centre currently consists of 100 full-time employees and has big plans for the upcoming year. One of their core objectives is to expand on there Christmas displays, to bring something different to the scene while keeping the magic of Christmas alive.

Alton Garden Centre would also like to thank friends, customers and all its partners for their well wishes on this happy occasion. More information on the business can be found at their website here Alton Garden Centre
