-- Otto Environmental announced the development and release of its small animal squeeze cage. This is a new clear plastic examination cage for small animals such as otters. Most similar products use components that include metal guides and attachment hardware. But this cage was re-engineered with plastic.

Jeff Otto, owner at Otto Environmental, says: “We wanted to try something new with a small animal examination kennel. Anyone familiar with the animal enrichment market will probably have noticed how everyone else seems to build cages that have metal components. This is a problem because metal interferes with MRI testing.”
The challenge was to design and fabricate the components into a clear Lexan (polycarbonate plastic) cage that has no metal parts. Otto Environmental worked alongside Kristine Grzenda of the Audubon Aquarium to develop this clear plastic examination cage made entirely of clear plastic.
Otto Environmental chose to make this move, in part, so that animal handlers can get quality MRI images while keeping their small animals safe and limiting movement at the same time. And, while this cage was made with Otters in mind, it can serve similar animals as well.
Features of the cage include: a sliding panel to limit animal movement during the MRI; guillotine doors on each end of the cage; sliding latches to secure the doors; handles on top for moving the cage; and openings in the fixed wall and doors for handing food and targeting.
Jeff also said, “We want to give our customers a fresh new possibility.
