As the new year arrives, Sydney-based biotechnology company Hygiene Labs has decided to increase production for their Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitiser to help prevent cross-contamination of harmful germs in the country. A hand sanitiser powered by 5th generation SiQuats that forms a covalent bond to eliminate 99.99% of germs.
A new study from researchers from all over the world at Brigham Young University found that alcohol-free hand sanitisers are just as effective as alcohol-based products. The scientists who performed this analysis believed the CDC’s preference for alcohol sanitisers are focused on minimal studies on the actual functioning of SARS-CoV-2 disinfection. In addition, they treat novel coronavirus samples with benzalkonium chloride, widely used in alcohol-free hand sanitisers, and many other quaternary ammonium compounds regularly used in disinfectants. In most cases, at least 99.99% of the virus was eliminated within 15 seconds.
For their theory to be evaluated, COVID samples were placed in test tubes and mixed in various compounds, including a .2% solution of benzalkonium and three commercially available disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium compounds. To mimic actual conditions, the disinfecting compounds have been neutralized, and the virus was removed from the tubes then placed on living cells. The virus could not kill or damage the cells thanks to the deactivating factors of the disinfecting compounds.
As airlines slowly opened their services for interstate and international traveling, hygiene protocols have been intensified to strengthen protections against the COVID-19. Hygiene Labs, together with Permagard Aviation, has partnered with a number of airline companies to provide cabin crews and passengers with alcohol-free hand sanitiser to prevent cross-contamination of harmful germs.
Hygiene Labs’ Managing Director, Mark Pettitt shared that “We have received excellent feedback from the airline’s cabin crews. They love the fact that the sanitiser is alcohol-free and only needs to be applied once a day, protecting their hands from drying out, which happens when alcohol-based sanitisers are used on a regular basis.”
