The launch comes as funeral music in the UK increasingly reflects the individuality of the person being remembered. Co-op Funeralcare’s 2025 Funeral Music Chart, based on research covering more than 90,000 funerals, found families choosing everything from traditional farewell songs to football anthems, television themes and unexpected pop tracks. The organisation said families are increasingly selecting music that reflects loved ones’ personalities, passions and memories.
A Song for Life takes that personalisation a step further by creating an original song around the individual. Families complete a questionnaire with the memories and details they feel comfortable sharing, which can include a person’s name, favourite memories, sayings, habits and preferred musical style or mood.
“I wanted to create something that felt genuinely personal to the person being remembered,” says Zena Carina, creator of A Song for Life.
Each personal memorial package includes the personalised memorial song and finished audio file, alongside a private online memorial page bringing together the song, photograph, lyrics and personal story. Families also receive six additional songs designed as optional music for different stages of a funeral or celebration of life, including the gathering, reflection and farewell. Families can also request a gentle revision if something needs adjusting, and tributes are usually ready within seven days once the required memories, questionnaire and photograph have been received.
Beyond the funeral itself, the service is designed to give families something they can return to and share long after the day has passed. Combining a personalised song with photographs, written memories and a private online memorial creates a lasting record of the person’s story, while the shareable page gives family and friends a single place to revisit the tribute from wherever they are.
