The new Happiness Challenge provides a good mix of tips and strategies that individuals can begin incorporating right away to increase their level of happiness. According to psychologists, humans have a built-in “negativity bias.” As psychologist Rick Hanson is fond of saying, “The mind is like Velcro for negative experiences and Teflon for positive ones.” The 30-Day Happiness Challenge seeks to counter the negativity bias by helping people shift their focus.


The goal is simple: To cultivate happiness each day. Those who sign up for the program will receive an email each day, or 30 emails for 30 days, with a simple task that can be accomplish within five to 10 minutes. These “little wins” have a cumulative effect designed to help participants engage in activities they enjoy and include the positive aspects of their experience.


Experts have noted that the overall global happiness score dropped several points at the onset of the pandemic. While this was understandable, analysts became concerned when there seemed to be a continuing downward trend.
